The Highwayman at Burrow near Kirkby Lonsdale is the latest pub to be opened by Ribble Valley Inns.
Ribble Valley Inns are part of the Northcote Manor group and are the people behind the multi award winning Three Fishes at Mitton.
Nigel Haworth, Craig Bancroft and their team are re-inventing pub food at their establishments with expertly prepared dishes using the very best locally sourced produce.
Teresa was called in to design the outdoor dining area just as the major renovation and alteration of the interior was drawing to a close, and the result completely turns the traditional concept of the pub beer garden on it's head.
You won't find the merest hint of uneven concrete paving, lopsided picnic tables or dried out hanging baskets. Instead what you get is a wonderfully detailed garden, brimming with points of interest.
Inviting and relaxing, the garden complements the interior perfectly and provides seating for up to 50 diners.
The extensive use of natural materials, clever use of space, and a culinary themed planting scheme create a unique al fresco dining environment.

" The Highwayman is a hugely exciting project for us for a number of reasons.
The most obvious is the high profile nature of it. To build the garden for a multi award winning team at their newest pub is not only immensely satisfying, it is also fantastic exposure.
Additionally, the project gave us the opportunity to really demonstrate what we are capable of. Nothing short of perfection would suffice for this job, and feedback so far indicates that we succeeded in that.
Teresa's design works superbly well, and the garden feels more like an intimate domestic one than a large public eating space.
The obvious stand out features are the large areas of natural stone paving and the perimeter wall. But look closer and you begin to notice the fine detailing that makes this garden special....
Shelves on the stone pillars that just happen to be the perfect width and height to rest a pint glass on. Inconspicuous niches in the wall. The immaculate finishing on the paving and cobbles. And just what is behind that old oak door with the rusted hinges? Perhaps only the Highwayman knows the answer to that question.... " |
